Garioch 2nd XV vs Jolly Boys - Match Report
Jolly Boys secure a comfortable bonus point win versus Garioch 2nd XV in Inverurie.
The Jolly Boys arrived in a determined mood to put last week's defeat behind them and push back up the league. Good intensity shown as early as the warm up was interrupted however with the news that Garioch were only able to field 12 players due to late call ups to their promotion chasing first XV. It was decided that the two Gordonians substitutions would join Garioch for a shortened 30 minute per half game.
To the Jolly Boys credit, the team managed to get back up for the match and began aggressively, showing intent to build an early lead. Despite starting with a man advantage, the match was soon 14 v 14 with Andy MacBeath going off with a head knock. Regardless, Gordonians secured an early lead with tries from Mike Medlock and Harry Kinsey, with further tries for Ally Gill and a second by Mike Medlock securing a bonus point victory before half-time.
A late arrival of another Garioch player at half time and the return of Andy MacBeath took the match back to 15 a side, leading to a far more entertaining second half.
Garioch got on the score sheet early on with a penalty, though Gordonians continued to apply pressure. Garioch's forwards also got more stuck in during the second period but a strong Jolly Boys defence restricted any yards gained, the highlight being a monster hit on the rampaging Garioch tight head by Kyle White and Harry Kinsey. Simon Corrigan had an effort disallowed, while some poor decision making stopped further scores. Finally with a minute to go, Andy Russell scored a 5th Jolly Boys try and converted with a drop goal.
Many thanks to Garioch for the game and the post-match hospitality, and we wish them all the best for the remainder of the season.
