Gordonians look to give visiting team nightmare on Counteswells Road
Welcome return to Countesswells to round off the first half of the season
After playing the previous 3 games on the road and yielding only 4 points from the 15 available Gordonians will be looking to keep up there good home form this season as the 1st XV welcome Orkney to the Granite City for a 13:00 Kick Off. The 2nd XV coming off two successive defeats will be looking to get there season back on track against city rival Aberdeen Wanderers 2nd XV, Kick off at 15:00.
Having lost narrowly on the Dark Isle 23-19 in the RBS Cup in late August the home side will be seeking for revenge over the Islanders. Such is the competition for places at the club only 9 of the 19 strong side that made the trip to Orkney in August make this weekend’s team sheet. Welcoming back Luke Morrow, Gordon Wood, Angus Willis & Sam Purvis from injury is a big boost to the home side who will be hoping to pick up where they left off at Countesswells before letting themselves down and playing poorly away from home.
With competition for places at a high in every position the 2nd XV should be reaping the benefits with no fewer than 12 players who have played in the 1st XV this year. The inspirational trio in the back row of Captain Andrew Cowie, Daryl Neill & James Elderflower will all be looking to impress coach Richie Anderson along with the rest of the side to forec their way into the 1st XV in the coming weeks. The committee are currently seeking a fixture for next weekend to potentially unleash a Gordonian 3rd XV for the first time in over a decade and have all 3 sides playing at Counteswells on the same day.
