Annual Dinner - Player Awards

1 month ago By Ciaran Marshall

Gordonian RFC celebrated the achievements of the 2017/18 season at the Annual Dinner on Saturday 14th April.

This year's club dinner was held at the Aberdeen Douglas Hotel with guest speaker ex-England prop Jeff Probyn. A big thanks to all who came along and made it such an enjoyable occassion.

Captain Tom Williams took the Player's Player of the Year Award in recognition of his 20-try haul during the club's first season in National 3, a remarkable statistic considering they came from a grand total of 5 metres out. Young player of the year went to prop Blair Strachan who consistently dominated his opposite man all year, while most improved player was awarded to utility back Tristan Jones.

Ewan Cameron followed up last season's trainer of the year award by taking out the Jolly Boys Player of the Year and Clubman of the Year awards, both extremely well deserved given his tireless work all season in fielding a 2nd XV almost every week. Bob Fraser, in his 124th season of rugby, took out this season's Trainer of the Year award.

This season's President Award, awarded every season by Jim Sugden, went to Peter Johnston Snr in recognition of all that Peter and his wife Kathleen do for the club as part of the medical team and half time catering. The final award of the evening, the Captains Award, went to Harry Loakman for all of his hard work and dedication during his first season at the club.

Congratulations to all award winners for this season!
